Bike Modifications

As they come from the factory, Enfield's are good solid bikes and their quality control is constantly improving. However as with most things mechanical (and mass-produced) there are things you can do to your Bullet to improve the reliability and performance.

Now there are some owners out there that have spent thousands of dollars trying to turn their Bullet into something it is not...a race-rocket. If that is your thing then fine, to each their own and all that but I believe that a more modest approach suits this bike.

My approach is more about strengthening known weaknesses and removing restrictions that limit the bike from it's full potential. All this while still leaving the bike in a reliable state of tune.

Below are a list of area's that I have made modifications to with details about how I carried out those changes and the effect they had on the bike.

Click on an area of the bike to see the specific modifications I have carried out. In some cases there are two categories listed; stage 1 and stage 2.

Stage 1: These modifications are the first things you would change and tend to be more about rectifying restrictions, i.e. changing the muffler (silencer). For many owners carrying out these changes will yield satisfactory improvements in both performance, reliability and cost.

Stage 2: Goes further and involves machining of engine parts, replacing the carburettor, increasing compression etc and are for the more enthusiastic amongst us.

However even with all of these modifications in place you will still not have a "race-rocket". If that is what you desire then sell the Enfield now and buy another bike before you waste a lot of money and wind up poor and disappointed.

As usual with things like this, I offer no guarantee that these modifications will be any of the following:

  • Legal in your country

  • Easy to carry out

  • A sure-fire performance or reliability increase

  • Within the bounds of any warranties

  • Good for your bike

  • Cheap

yada, yada... legal crap, legal crap... you know the drill I'm sure J
